Am I locked into a contract?
No, there is no long-term commitment. However, there is a one-month minimum cost, regardless of how long you keep the container.
Are your containers watertight and vermin-proof?
Yes, every container we sell or hire is designed to be sealed against wind and water, keeping your belongings safe and dry while preventing pests and vermin from entering. Please note that our "as is" containers are not certified as waterproof, making them a more budget-friendly option.
What costs are involved in hiring a container?

- Rent – Make weekly direct debit payments for as long as you need the container. Simply let us know when you're ready to end the lease.
What are the different container grades?
New Build (One Trip)
- Description: Is essentially a brand-new container that’s been only used once - to ship goods from China to Australia, then either hired out or sold on to the domestic market
- Appearance: No rust and possibly only a couple scratches or scuff marks from the one trip of use.
- Best For: Customers who want a container that looks great and is built to withstand the elements for a very long time.
Ex Hire Containers
- Description: A near-new container that has been used in domestic hire but remains in excellent condition.
- Appearance: Light signs of use, such as minor scuffs, but well-maintained.
- Best For: Buyers wanting a high-quality container at a lower price than a One Trip container.
A Grade Containers
- Description: These containers have been shipped around the world multiple times yet remain in very good condition.
- Appearance: Minimal light dents, no rust or patches, with solid floors and doors. (Note: This grade is less common in the 20ft GP variety.)
- Best For: Long-term storage where watertight and vermin-proof conditions are essential, and they’re also a great option if you plan to re-paint with a Colorbond colour that blends in with the surrounding environment.
B Grade Containers
- Description: The most popular grade in our domestic market, these containers are in good, used condition and offer great value.
- Appearance: They typically show minimal to medium-sized dents, minor surface rust in some areas, and may have one or two welded patches. Floors might have been previously repaired, and the doors are fully functional ensuring the container is both watertight and vermin-proof.
- Best For: This is our recommended minimum standard for long-term storage of furniture and household items. Some preparation work might be needed to achieve a flawless re-painted finish.
C Grade Containers
- Description: These are budget-friendly options that have endured a tougher life in the shipping industry. They are usually in fair condition.
- Appearance: Expect side walls that may be slightly bowed due to multiple dents (often with welded patches), rough floors with several repairs, and doors that might be a bit more challenging to operate.
- Best For: Still watertight and vermin-proof at point of sale, these are ideal for short-term storage of delicate items like furniture or household goods. They are better suited for less fragile items such as machinery, vehicles, farm equipment, or hay storage. Not recommended for re-painting.
As Is Condition
- Description: These are our most affordable options. They haven’t undergone inspection, so they are not sold as watertight or vermin-proof.
- Appearance: Significant signs of aging are common, with notable dents, rust, and multiple repairs.
- Best For: Perfect for non-critical uses—think garden or firewood storage, or even as a quick makeshift shelter. Not recommended for long-term storage of sensitive items unless the container is kept under cover or otherwise protected from the elements.
This grading system ensures you know exactly what you’re getting, with the price reflecting the container’s condition. Let us know if you have any questions or need further details on any grade!
Can I buy the container after hiring?
Yes! We offer a Hire-to-Purchase option, where a portion of your rental payments contributes to the purchase price.
I see containers advertised elsewhere as "Cargo Worthy" condition, what does this mean?
In the container shipping industry, "Cargo Worthy" refers to a container that meets structural standards for international shipping. However, the overall condition can vary significantly. That's why we take it a step further at Supabox by grading our containers as A, B, or C. This clear grading system lets you know exactly what you're getting and can be confident that the price accurately reflects the container's condition.
How does the Hire-to-Purchase option work?
We’ll provide the outstanding amount required to own the container. The initial bond and return transport costs are deducted from the total amount owing.
I would like a shipping container but am worried I will have trouble opening and closing it.
If you find it challenging opening and closing a container, our easy open door containers are the perfect solution. Featuring a single locking bar with an extra-long handle, these containers are designed for one-handed operation, offering both convenience and security. They're also a great option for the elderly, ensuring ease of use for everyone.
What happens when I’m finished with my hire container?
Simply give us a call, and we’ll schedule a pickup. After inspection at our yard, we will return your bond.
Do I need council permission for a container?
As a general rule, issues with councils are rare. But it’s smart to check before hand in case any special guidelines apply in your area.
Can the containers be painted?
Yes! We can paint your container in a range of Colorbond colours to match your business, home, or project.
Can the containers be modified?
Definitely! We offer modifications such as:
- Extra doors and windows
- Ventilation
- A roller door for easy access
- Custom fittings for offices, workshops, kiosks, and more
Need a custom modification? Let us know, and we’ll make it happen.
How will my shipping container be delivered?
We use a tilt tray truck for 20ft containers and a side loader for 40ft containers.
Why does delivery cost more for a 40ft container?
40ft containers require a side loader truck, which is significantly more expensive to operate than a tilt tray. While 40ft containers may seem like better value, keep in mind that the higher delivery cost can offset the savings.
How much space do I need for delivery?
- 20ft container (Tilt Tray): Needs about 15m in length for unloading, plus enough width for the truck to access the site.
- 40ft container (Side Loader): Needs at least 6m width and two truck lengths (about 15m each) for safe unloading.
Will my site be suitable for a 40ft container delivery?
Side loaders require firm, level ground and a wide, clear access path. If space is tight or the ground is soft, a 40ft container may not be suitable.
Can I choose where the container is placed?
Yes, but placement depends on truck access. Most side loaders can only unload on the driver’s side, so be sure to plan accordingly. Our drivers will do their best to position your container as requested, but obstacles like trees, fences, or slopes can limit options.
What if I’m unsure about my site access?
If you're unsure, send us photos or a short video of the site, and we’ll assess whether delivery is feasible.
